Cyclone Alfred, thanks for the wet floor!

Cyclone Alfred, thanks for the wet floor!

With the constant bucketing heavy rain here in Brisbane, my wet feet has shown me that my sunroof and engine firewall drains are not 100% clean.  If you've never cleaned them out then its probably time to have a look now.

On gen 1 and 2 cars you'll find the firewall drains behind the front wheel liners.  Simply pull them out and give it a rinse.  You'll be amazed at the amount of leaves and dirt that fall out.  When this is blocked heavy rain can build up and then over flow inside the car.

The front sunroof drains are accessed from inside the car.  You'll find them under the carpet and felt just above the accelerator pedal location.  They are a rubber duckbill connected to a hose heading up to the A pillar.  Just pull then loose from the inside.  You may find that its completely perished shut.  Simply snip off a section until there is a 1mm gap so it doesn't close up again.

Test the sunroof drains are good by pouring water into the small gutter around the sunroof when its open.  It should drain away very quickly.  If it pools up, they are blocked.

Happy camping
